Posted in Repair on December 15th, 2010 by admin

When you want to repair a hole in an automotive body panel, cheap, fiberglass resin is the way to go. Instead of taking your car to an expensive body shop and having them replace the whole body panel, you can patch small to medium sized holes in body panels using fiberglass mesh and resin. These can be purchased at most full service auto parts and supply stores. You can also pick them up at your local auto body and paint supply house. The cheapest prices, however, will most likely be found online. A one gallon bucket of fiberglass resin will set you back about $60, while a one quart, suitable for smaller repairs, will cost you about $20.

How Long Does it take for Automotive Fiberglass Resin to Dry?

Posted in Repair on December 15th, 2010 by admin

Automotive fiberglass resin requires fiberglass mesh fabric and a catalyst in order to be used. Fiberglass resin and mesh can be used to patch holes in automotive body panels and maintain the required rigidity for a body panel. You can also use fiberglass mesh and resin to create door panels, speaker enclosures and inner panels. Use of this product is fairly easy and full instructions will be found on the packaging for both the mesh fabric and the catalyst. Once mixed application and shaping needs to be completed within about 30 minutes because rigidity will start to set in during that time. Full hardness and curing will occur, in most room temperature and above environments in about two to three hours. More time will be needed in colder environments.

What is the Average Price for Methyl Ethyl Keton Peroxide?

Posted in Repair on December 15th, 2010 by admin

Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, or MEKP, is commonly used as the catalyst for hardening fiberglass mesh fabric and resin when making body panel repairs, speaker enclosures, inner door panels and inner trim panels. The amount of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide required for this purpose is very minute. For this reason this product is sold in small bottles. MEKP can be purchased at any parts store or auto body and paint supply store that you can buy fiberglass mesh fabric and resin at. The average price for this will be about $5 per 4 oz. bottle.  It must be noted that this product is highly flammable and explosive, so care must be taken when handling it.
